Thatiana Pagung

Carnaval Rio 2009 Sambodromo, Thatiana Pagung

For 2010, Thatiana Pagung will parade again as Reina da Bateria for  Mocidade Independente Padre Miguel Samba School where she has been a member since 2007.

Tatiana is a true “roots” Reina da Bateria as she first gained her fame as a standout Carnaval dancer and then became popular as a TV actress.

Tatiana finds more than fun through her participation in the carnival parades. The multi-talented actress once stated during an interview that parading in the Rio Sambadrome feels like a Dionysian ritual, where all the magic, ecstasy and enthusiasm vibrate in perfect harmony. Perhaps this may be related to her birthday which follows Shrove Tuesday, the last day of pre-Lenten Carnival better known as Ash Wednesday.

Thatiana has a deep connection with the samba world and as a child, loved to watch the samba parades at TV. She also began her training as an actress early when , first at the “Retiro dos Artistas Acting School” and then then moved to the prestigious Tablado Theater School in Rio before she graduated from high school.

MiniThatiana10origi.jpg As she moved from adolescence to adulthood, the samba passion grew stronger and she would ask her father to take her to the samba rehearsals. The muse-to-be never gave up, and after many ‘no´s’ from her parents, one day they finally allowed her to visit the Tradição Samba-School´s practice facilities – quadra. From that moment on, her identification with the real Carnaval world was instant, and she joined the Tradição Samba-School for 4 years , 1999-2002.

She debuted in 1999, at the Rio Sambadrome with Vila Isabel, Caprichosos, Viradouro, and Tradição Samba School. Then for the 2009 Carnaval Special Schools parade she was asked to become the Queen of the Drum Orchestra by Mocidade Samba School.
She has also studied percussion  with Mastre Riko at the Villa Lobos Music School, where she learned to play later becoming a member of the first women´s- only samba-school Bateria at Tradição Samba School.

Thatiana is one of the elite class of samba dancers in Rio who made it to the star level where only actresses and models roam. As an actress, Thati also had significant participations in “Zorra Total” and “Turma do Didi” comic shows, from Globo Network. She stared in a soap opera on Rede Record where she was slated to be "killed" off only after a few episodes. But she was so well received, the writers decided to keep her on for over 50 episodes. Other work includes: TV Series – GNT – “Gente Lesa”; “Um Só Coração” – Globo Network;  Comedy Play – “Sujou”; Reality Show – “O Jogo”

Thatiana could be defined as one of the best examples of the true “roots” Drum Queens at the Brazilian Carnival. Unlike some other Queens, Thatiana has a deep connection with the samba world (she was born during a Carnival!!) and as a child, loved to watch the samba parades at TV.
